Unluckiest Number in China

The number 4 (si) is considered unlucky in China because it sounds like the word for “death” (si). As a result, Chinese buildings often lack a 4th floor and sometimes they’ll call it 3A instead.

Likewise, Chinese people will avoid vehicle license plates, phone numbers, house numbers... or really anything that involves the number 4.

Interestingly, a study found that due to the psychological stress caused by the number 4, there are more sudden cardiac deaths among Chinese people on the 4th of each month.
