Ghibli Muesum

For those who have enjoyed watching some of Japan’s most popular animated films, such as My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and Ponyo, the Studio Ghibli Museum in Mitaka is a place you do not want to miss out on.

One attraction visitors can look forward to seeing is the recreation of a Studio Ghibli art director’s studio. Here, one can observe the process and time it takes for the artist to develop the mood and details of the characters they are trying to bring to life. Scrapbooks on display vividly illustrate the diverse inspirations shaping the artists' work, ranging from elements of nature to the intricacies of engineering.

Another popular exhibit area shows interactive, life-sized recreations of popular films, such as the interior of the amazing flying ships of Laputa: Castle in the Sky, where visitors can open drawers and cabinets and find them full of different tools and cooking ingredients.
